In the Last Days There Shall Be….Traitors

2 Tim. 3: 1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

  1. I could be wrong, but my understanding of this is:

    2 Timothy 3:1 is a favorite passage of the deranged floaty place Premillennial Dispensational futurists like Phelps. He thinks references to the “last days” (as mentioned in the NT are still yet future, complete with a rapture and other traitorous Scofield communist apostate anti-intellectual Neo-Platonic nonsense. Reciprocally, the last days, as I’ve understood it spoken of by Timothy, were the days he himself was living in (in the first century), as the Temple life was being threatened and destroyed. Another of many examples, (for continuity sake) is the Book of Hebrews, which opens with two verses that put the timing of certain eschatological events into perspective. “God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world” (Heb. 1:1-2). Here, the “last days” were in the time of Yeshua’s earthly ministry.

    This is not all or nothing Preterism or Postmillennialism. This does not mean, in knee jerk fashion, that the Mosaic moral law is null and void or that the dietary laws and feasts and celebratory laws and grooming ordinances are not still in effect (excepting the removal of Temple and the Levitical priesthood) – just because Timothy or Paul are trumpeting impending danger and destruction of the Temple way of life. Regardless of the temple, (I would agree) the Jewish laws remain in effect today and for future generations, thank goodness. Obedience to the law is a reward, not a burden. Yeshua said He did not come to do away with the law or the prophets.The last days, as mentioned in 2 Timothy 3, are the last days of the of Jewish (Levitical) temple life (first century), complete with dissolution of the Levitical priesthood. A new priesthood substitutes (Melchizedek) and the Mosaic laws and dietary laws and grooming laws and feasts continue, unabated, even though the “last days” spoken of by Timothy were with regards to events (including traitors) in his lifetime. The time texts of verses within and surrounding these verses make that apparent. Apostasy was rampant in the first century (as they are now also) and apostates are traitors, then and now. It’s not all or nothing eschatology, though I am aware of the Reformers’ classic Protestant eschatology of Historicist Postmillennialism, which I agree with generally and over-archingly. However, I am also aware of errors on the part of the Reformers, as they settled for a modified Roman Catholicism, eschatology not excepting. also, Calvin’s treatise on the “soul” is shameful for a man of his caliber.

    The earthly temple was designed as a temporary edifice that would no longer be needed when the true temple of God, Yeshua, was manifested on earth. Just like heaven is God’s true throne and dwelling place (probably directly above the North Pole) and the flat earth is His footstool. The earthly temple was designed with obsolescence in mind, not to overthrow God’s laws, but to exalt Yeshua and God’s laws in its place. Yeshua Himself, as we are commanded to do – kept the Mosaic, dietary, grooming, feasts & celebratory laws. Only the earthly temple was eventually overthrown. The (Mosaic) laws and feasts and so on, remain (pay attention Mr. “Full Preterist” Kenneth Gentry) are remain in effect. These laws can be done without a stone and mortar building. Many of Yeshua’s redeemed (such as the 1st century Judaizers and the Judaizer Pilgrims and Puritans) kept these lawsand many have many have done it since, and still do, such as Yeshua’s beloved Brother Drake (and myself).

    1. Apocalyptic language of the last days began with the Apostles and Yeshua two thousand years
      ago and ends with the second coming, which probably meant that the last days were the end of the Sinai Covenant.

      Acts 2:16-21, Heb. 1:2, 2 Pet. 3:3
